Looking back on the last 6 or 7 months it definately hasn’t been a good time. Yes my wife stopped working, she loves it, unfortunately what she didnt love was just how much time I spent working.
Our relationship spiraled downwards, I spent less and less time working, and more and more time playing a MMORPG. (Escaping the bad situation at home). Unfortunately it only made things worse, and I, at the time, didn’t care.
The less I worked, the less I made, the less I made the harder it became to pay the bills. The money was flowing out faster than I was making it, our savings got eaten, the credit card got maxed.
Anyway the result of that was that often there wasn’t the money to pay for the hosting at the end of the month, so my sites would drop of the net until I could pay the bill. Of course the more they dropped off, the less I made.
In the end I couldnt pay the bill, didnt have a complete back up of everything and so lost quite a bit of data.
I also lost my wife, she asked me to move out, and I did, but I had no where to go and no money to pay for it.
For the past few weeks I have been living in my car, eating when I could, trying to stay warm (winter here, and its been bad so far, snow down to sea level). I’ll tell you more about what it’s like to live in a car in another post. Anyway for all of the above and some other reasons I totally screwed up my online presence. Can I rebuild it? No Idea, but I am going to try.
I have managed to get some of my sites back up, thanks to a generous hosting provider who is allowing me to run up a “bill” until I can afford to pay for it. (No names, they don’t want everyone asking for it.)
I’ve kinda got a place to live now, I used to keep an office in town that I got very cheaply, really it was just used as storage. I gave it up about 4 months ago. After speaking with the owners I have managed to get it back, only thing is I’m not supposed to live there.
I figure if I can manage to keep living there for 6 months to a year I should be able to put myself back in a good financial position (read have enough to actually afford a proper place to live).
It’s pretty basic, no phone, no internet, no shower, no kitchen, but it is dry, and a little warmer than living in a car.
I’ve lost a lot from this major mistake, some of which I will never get back. Don’t let it happen to you!
