A few years ago the Government of New Zealand announced the Hi Growth ICT project which was to make 100 ICT Companies that had 100 million a year in turnover by the year 2012. I believe this project is still going.
I’m not sure how much the Government is spending on this, but to my way of thinking they are a little mad. Creating Companies of that size is quite difficult. What the Government should be doing is creating a program that gets unemployed people into online working.
There are 2 benefits to this, one is that the number of unemployed people on a benefit is reduced and of course the other is the export income that these people would be bringing into the Country.
A project of this nature could easily be done for a couple of million dollars. The return on investment is hard to calculate because of the two fold effect, reducing unemployed people and export income.
It would however surely be much greater than the amount spent by an order of magnitude.
Anyone know anything about getting the Government to fund such an idea?
