A few people, both online and offline, have asked how I’ve managed to get where I am in only a few months, and believe it or not it is not that hard.
There are actually 2 components to getting where I am:
- The 3 P’s
- I’m sure you have all heard of the 3 L’s with regard to buying a property, well I have the 3 P’s for money making websites. The P’s stand for Problem, Potential, and Price.
- Knowing what to do to improve the Potential, and/or fix the Problem.
- You don’t need the ability to do the work, but you do need to be able to identify what the issues are and get them fixed, obviously it is cheaper if you can do it yourself.

A secret to making a living online revealed
Until recently I have been using a very simple spreadsheet that I plug my daily earnings into and it gave me some metrics to work with.
It was getting a bit unwieldly to work with, and with a years worth of data it would be impossible, so I decided to create a new spreadsheet that had some thought behind it.
My new spreadsheet has a sheet for each month, a monthly graph sheet, and a summary sheet that includes all sorts of useful (at least to me) information. (Earnings by Month, Daily Avg, Monthly Min, Monthly Max, Monthly Earnings by Advertiser, YTD Earnings, YTD Earnings by Advertiser and a YTD Graph.)
As of this evening my earnings for the year have passed the four figure amount ($1000). That might not sound like much considering it is almost november, but over 80% of that was earned in the last 25 days I think that shows a great improvement.
I haven’t quite managed to earn $50 in one day as yet, but I got very close a couple of times in the last week ($1.11 short).
If you assume that my average monthly earnings will stay around the current mark then over the next year I should make it into the 5 figure earning group!
In the last few days I have been doing the rounds each evening collecting the total earnings from each of my advertising programs, which I then enter into a little spreadsheet I have created that gives me all kinds of nice stats.
As I was doing this tonite I got to thinking. A month ago I was happy if I earned a couple of dollars in day, a week or two later I was happy with $5, then $10, and now I expect at least $20 a day. I find it interesting that once I have hit a certain level a couple of times that becomes the yard stick by which I measure subsequent days.
Passed the $25 mark today…
Up to now I have been setting a goal for $5 more than the previous maximum as my near term goal, I’ve decided to up the ante and make the next goal $50 a day.
My mid term goal is to be doing $70 a day by christmas, and by september next year I want to be doing $233 a day ($7K a month)
I made a bit of time this evening and decided to start working on all those reports that I haven’t done. While I was adding all the figures to my OpenOffice spreadsheet I decided to graph the end result.
This graph does not include any consulting income, it is purely revenue generated from advertising on my websites and also affiliate programs.
The very obvious spike in the graph is the day I earned $31 in revenue from one affiliate program. These dollar amounts shown include all advertising and associate programs that have generated revenue since I started back in July.
I have been ignoring my blogs recently, and that has to change, but my other websites are really starting to show some nice results.
Last week I reported that I’d almost hit $15 dollars in Adsense revenue in one day, well this week I’m happy to report that I passed the $15 mark last Wednesday.
Of course today is a Monday, and you know what that means, Yup another high mark was made. Today I earned over $20 in Adsense revenue. I think I am going to have to start making my goals higher amounts as I seem to be able to hit an increase of $5 pretty easily.
One of the sites I bought recently had previously been excluded from the google index. The owner decided he was going to sell the site rather than fix it.
In comparision to the sites revenue the purchase price was very cheap ($2.5k). I was pretty sure that I could get the site back in the google index, and last night it was again in the index.
Basically I went through the site and cleaned up anything that could of caused the ban, then I contacted Google and explained the situation to them, after a couple of emails being exchanged between them and me they agreed to pass it onto the engineering team for evaluation.
I really like my Mondays!
My Mondays are for most of my visitors their Sundays, and it’s always the highest revenue day for me, this week my AdSense revenue was over $10, in fact it was very near to $15.
I know this is peanuts compared to what some people are earning, but it shows my revenue is starting to climb.
I can’t wait for next Monday!
