Another useful site I found is a backlink finding tool. I suspect they are just querying google with the right search terms but I’m not sure.
This is quite handy if your looking for sites that in your subject that will link to you. I’ve had a bit of a play with it, and it’s not bad.
Most of the sites it finds are of the kind that want you to put a link to them up before they link to you.
Site Address: www.webconfs.com
I came across this site the other day, very useful for getting colours that work together, especially if your like me and have no visual design gene. Anyway enough waffling, check it out at colorcombos.com
Earlier this week I was approached by a guy who had purchased a site from the original developer, he’d bought it a few months ago and it still wasn’t up on his server in a running state.
This weeks weekly report is delayed by a few days, I’m extremely busy trying to fix a database issue for someone. I’ll explain more when I have finished the job because it is an interesting story and highlights another important consideration:
“When buying virtual property, always ensure you have the ability to cancel the deal and/or hold a sledge hammer over the other parties head if things should go wrong”
In my last weekly update (here) I mentioned that my new site had received a huge surge in traffic by a single post on a forum by someone who found my site.
What I didn’t mention was that it was a negative post.
It has been an amazing week, and I apologise for not posting more often. My only excuse is that I have been busy building my income.
I’ve spent more time this week creating some plugins for wordpress that give me the functionality that I need. Once they have enough polish on them I will release them on this site.
The other big thing I have done this week is start pushing my new project site. I decided to use both blogexplosion.com, and paid text ad’s to start getting traffic to my site.
Over the last couple of days I have been creating content for my site and visiting the relevant pages after publishing them to see how they look and also get the adsense bot to visit them.
I thought this was a great idea, I couldn’t of been more wrong.
My site is now littered with ad’s for sql reporting tools, sql server 2000, and even mysql.
My site is displaying these ad’s because due to a plugin I had installed and activated when the google adsense bot checked the page it got a fatal error from the site about connecting to the db, but only as an anonymous users.
Lots happened in the last week, and I actually made a small profit last week.
I’m still in the red overall after my initial purchases, but now that my main project site is online that should soon change.
The number of sites has increased, and my only expense this week has been the domain name purchase that I mentioned last week for the forum site that I wanted to restore to life.
This morning I have been hard at work deciding on the best way to attract traffic to my site.
On a whim I decided to sign up for Google AdWords and see what it would cost me to get some paid traffic in.
Allowing them to set the CPC on my favoured keywords resulted in a daily estimate of several hundred dollars for only around 40 clicks a day.
That is a huge amount of cash so it is definately out as a way of drawing traffic to my site, but it does have an upside, it proves that I was correct with my calculations about this niche possibly being a highly profitable niche to get into.
The blog I am aiming to make most of my income from has opened. I’ve gotten some content up in it, and have started the process of getting it noticed.
Interestingly enough, except for the main page the AdSense targetting was spot on. Archives and Full story pages had almost perfect targetting. For some reason my main (home) pages rarely do.
I’ll really have to look into that some more.
